University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino found a pair of players he liked when he watched Team United on Friday at the Peach Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
Pitino offered Team United shooting guard Alex O'Connell on Friday night after watching him twice and on Sunday extended an offer to teammate Lance Thomas - a 6-foot-10 power forward from Norcross, Ga.
"They're both opening a lot of eyes," Team United coach Cedric Canty said. "With (Thomas), a lot of people in Georgia knew about him but not many folks outside of the state of Georgia knew.
"His upside is out of this world."
Thomas has 25 scholarship offers, including recent ones from North Carolina State, Oklahoma and Mississippi State. He made an unofficial visit to Mississippi in mid-June.
Canty said U of L and N.C. State were "two of the biggest he's added this weekend."
"I would think he's going to continue to open a lot of eyes this month," Canty said. "He can do a lot of everything. He can handle it, shoot it, bring the ball up the floor and pass it. He's really got a lot of upside and can do a lot of things."
Thomas is expected to narrow his list after July. He'll attend the Victor Oladipo camp this week in Washington D.C., and then play with team United in an event in the area.
