Cardinal Authority provides a look at Louisville's special teams

While the University of Louisville football team welcomes back a plethora of talent - including 18 starters - there are a couple of noticeable question marks lingering for the coaching staff to answer during fall camp, which opens on Wednesday morning.

Kicker Jon Wallace and punter Josh Appleby both completed their eligibility, leaving important openings in the Cardinals special teams.

Sophomores Patrick Soucy and Evan O'Hara, and redshirt freshman Blanton Creque all competed during the spring and while Creque may have a slight edge, the position remains open as the team begins its prep for the 2016 season.  Redshirt freshman Mason King and true freshman Austin Johnson will compete for punting responsibilities.

There is plenty of talent to choose from for kick and punt returners, with Traveon Samuel and Jaire Alexander both expected to continue to handle kick and punt returns respectively.  Samuel handled the majority of the kickoff returns last season, averaging 26.8 yards a return.  Alexander handled the punt returns for
most of the year, averaging 9.7 yards per attempt.  Alphonso Carter and James Quick could also return a few this fall.

Colin Holba will serve as the long snapper and Alexander will handle holding duties.
