Gary, Ind, West Side point guard Dana Evans is one of the top players in the Class of 2017 and is high on the University of Louisville women's basketball program. She visited Louisville in June and talks about her interest.

It's been quite a summer for Gary, Ind., West Side point guard Dana Evans.

The 5-foot-6 Evans has made her way up to No. 7 in the Class of 2017 rankings by, won a gold medal with the USA Basketball U-18 national team and played sensational for the Indiana Gym Rats.

Evans said last month she knew once the AAU season was over it was time to start thinking about college.

"It's going to be a very tough decision for me, very tough," she said. "I have a lot of good schools."

Evans lists Louisville, Purdue, Tennessee, UCLA, Vanderbilt, DePaul, Indiana and Oklahoma State and made a visit to U of L in early June. She said the hope was to make a decision sometime before early fall.

"It's important that I make the right decision," Evans said.

While she said there was no favorite, Evans said the U of L program was "high" on her list for a number of reasons. She said U of L coach Jeff Walz and his staff have done a "great job of building a relationship."

"Louisville is just a great program all around," she said. "They have a great coaching staff and they care about you. Look at the team, half of the team is McDonald's All-Americans; they're loaded with players. They had another great recruiting class.

"So they are loaded and trying to win a championship."

Evans said the visit to U of L really helped her "see just how they are" on campus with their players.

"I like the school, the girls are really cool and I like how they talk to you not just about basketball," Evans said. "They discused and broke down everything academically with me. It was great for me to see that."
