A video look at the special teams position for the University of Louisville football team this season

Cardinal Authority is running a position series as a preseason football feature to help you get familiar with the entire University of Louisville roster. Along with a breakdown of the position and a feature story each day we will do a video preview. Here's a look at today's video preview of the Louisville special teams.

The University of Louisville football team has a lot of weapons coming back this season.

But one spot where there's a lot to replace is on special teams. Kicker Jon Wallace and punter Josh Appleby both graduated and there have been battles for both positions in fall camp.

U of L coach Bobby Petrino said on Friday the battles "are continuing" for both positions.

Redshirt freshman Mason King and true freshman Austin Johnson are battling for the punter position, while Evan O'Hara and Blanton Creque are the two battling for the placekicker duties.

Anthony George has a leg up for the kickoff position.

There is plenty of talent to choose from for kick and punt returners, with Traveon Samuel and Jaire Alexander both expected to continue to handle kick and punt returns respectively.  Samuel handled the majority of the kickoff returns last season, averaging 26.8 yards a return.  Alexander handled the punt returns for most of the year, averaging 9.7 yards per attempt.

Colin Holba will once again serve as the long snapper.
