University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino spent a lot of time this summer watching one of his top targets in the Class of 2018 - Orlando, Fla., Edgewater guard Anfernee Simons.
Pitino was back in Central Florida on Monday watching Simons work out.
The Hall of Fame coach had a clear message for the 6-foot-3 Simons, who played for Team Breakdown this summer.
"We had a little talk," Simons said. "And he was telling me how much they want me. He was talking about how they really like my game and how they think I fit right into their style of play.
"He was saying I can make a big impact as soon as I get there."
Simons said during the summer that Louisville was his leader and noted Pitino gave him something to think about.
"I was just listening to him," he said.
Simons is up to 11 offers, including U of L, Florida, Florida State, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, Miami, Tennessee, West Virginia, South Florida and Central Florida.
He said there are no plans for narrow his list at this time. But Simons said he expects to make another visit to Louisville sometime likely during the coming season.
