Ranked among the top prospects nationally in the Class of 2018, Montverde (Fla.) Academy power forward Silvio De Sousa is certain to have the attention of nearly every major program across the country as he inches closer to his final year of high school ball.
The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward particpated in the John Lucas MidWest Invitational held in Louisville last weekend, where he turned in a number of dominating performances. His physical size and ability to run the floor proved to much for most attending the high-skills camp.
"I think I improved my game, which is the main thing," he told Cardinal Authority. "I just to try come out and do my hardest."
Dozens of programs have expressed a strong interest in De Sousa, who stated that "Louisville, Florida and Florida State" are among those showing the most interest at this point.
"I think everything is going well, right now," he said. "I just need to keep working hard, that's what matters."
De Sousa is rated as the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2018 class. His Scout.com analysis describes him as a physical player who isn't afraid to work inside.
"He is as good an athlete as you will find in the country, and is as strong as anybody in high school basketball," it reads. "Add in that he plays hard, is always attacking the rim, and is a tremendous rebounder, and it is easy to see why he is thought of so highly."
College coaches love his physicality, but also encourage him to improve on his ball-handling abilities and outside game.
"They tell me to work on my handle and to work on my outside shot," he said. "Those are the main things and I think they're right on what I need to work on."
As for his interest in Louisville, De Sousa admits that he's been impressed by the interest shown by the Cardinals program.
"Rick Pitino has been showing up and I like that," he said. "I think they are really good and I like how they play."
He currently claims no favorites and is in no rush to make his college choice.
"I'm going to take my time and wait until the end of season."
