A look back at the series between Louisville and Duke prior to Friday's game at 7 o'clock in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium

Cardinal Authority will provide a weekly look at the series between the University of Louisville and that week's opponent. Well, this week is an ACC home game for the Cardinals when Louisville hosts Duke at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium on Friday night.

When the University of Louisville hosts Duke on Friday night in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium it will mark just the second matchup between the two schools and the first in Louisville.

The previous matchup was a Louisville blowout - a 40-3 win over the Blue Devils on Sept. 7 of 2002 in Durham, N.C.

Former U of L quarterback Dave Ragone threw two touchdown passes and tight end Ronnie Ghent caught a TD pass from Ragone and also one from Stefan LeFors in the victory.

The Cardinals defense had a safety early in the game to go ahead 2-0 and blocked a punt that was recovered for a touchdown by Brandon Johnson later in the game. U of L was up 26-0 at one point.

The two schools were to meet four times between 2002 and 2009. But after the blowout win for U of L, the Blue Devils opted out of the final three games.

The schools are not scheduled to play again until the 2021 season when U of L will visit Durham.
