The University of Louisville hosted at least four kicker prospects among 80 visitors last weekend at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium for the ACC blowout of North Carolina State.
U of L's current kicker Blanton Creque hit 4 of 4 field goals, but it still appears the staff will give a scholarship to a kicker in the 2017 class.
And Hoschton, Ga., Mill Creek High School kicker Brenton King is hoping he's the guy. King was on a visit last weekend and said he had a "really great" visit to campus and to watch the game.
"That's what it sounds like," King said when asked if the Cardinals were going to offer a kicker. "We really didn't talk about that but that's what it sounds like. My visit went great."
The 6-foot-1, 170-pound King has one scholarship at this point - Old Dominion - but has visited U of L and Georgia and has also reported that South Carolina is among his top three at this point of his recruitment.
King is a former high school teammate with current U of L freshman lineman Robbie Bell.
"I really liked it," King said. "I love the players and the coaches."
King has made eight field goals as a senior and has hit 95 percent of his kickoffs for touchbacks.
He was named a preseason large school first-team All-American by MaxPreps.com and has kicked 72 percent of his career kickoffs into the end zone for a touchback. His long among 28 career field goals is 56 yards.
U of L also had Northwestern commitment Charlie Kuhbander of Springsboro, Ohio, Danville, Ill., kicker Caleb Griffith, North Oldham kicker Jakson Wine and Hammonton, N.J., kicker Jonathan Ryker on campus last weekend.
