U of L women ranked No. 5

University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz said recently at media day that he felt like his team would be ranked among the top five teams heading into the new season.

And he was spot on.

The Cardinals have been tabbed No. 5 in the Associated Press preseason poll of coaches released on Tuesday. Notre Dame is ranked No. 1, followed by Baylor, four-time defending champion Connecticut and South Carolina.

"We feel really good about this team," Walz said. "We have a lot of experience, we have some really good young players who are going to help us out and we have a lot of players with a lot of talent.

"We feel good about it going in."

Walz participates in media day

Walz was one of six coaches nationally that participated in a National Media Day on Tuesday at ESPN.

The 10th year head coach of the U of L women's program spent time on ESPN's campus in Bristol, Conn., and was on a number of different ESPN platforms for interviews, chats and podcasts, etc.

There were also a number of regional and national media agencies in attendance.

Walz said the exposure of the event was going to be "tremendously beneficial" for the Cardinals.

Top '18 star has Cards in final six

Sacramento, Calif., 2018 standout Aquira Decosta has listed the Louisville program in her final six.

The 6-foot-1 Decosta is tabbed as the No. 5 prospect overall and the top forward in the '18 class nationally by ESPN.com. She checks in at No. 6 in the class by ProspectsNation.com.

Decosta also listed Tennessee, Baylor, Oklahoma, Washington and UCLA.
