University of Louisville basketball signee Malik Williams was named to the Naismith Award watch list for the boys' high school player of the year, The Fort Wayne, Ind., Snider star is a top candidate for Mr. Basketball in the Hoosier State.

Louisville signee Malik Williams added quite an honor on Tuesday.

The 7-foot Williams, one of four signees with the Cardinals last week, has been named as one of 50 players nationally - in any class - to the Naismith Trophy watch list for Boys' High School National Player of the Year.

Williams is a leading contender for Mr. Basketball in the state of Indiana after averaging 21.2 points, 13.1 rebounds and 2.9 blocks as a junior.

The Player of the Year and the All-American teams will be announced in March by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Williams is the lone U of L signee on the list, but several future targets including New Albany, Ind., star 2018 prospect Romeo Langford is also one of the players up for the national honor.

Other U of L targets on the list include: 2018 forward Silvio De Sousa, 2019 forward Matthew Hurt and '18 guard Immanuel Quickley.
