It’s the 17th meeting between Louisville and Houston on Thursday night in Houston.
The series is tied 8-8.
Louisville does hold the recent advantage over the Cougars, winning six of the last eight meetings. The Cardinals did los 34-31 last season in Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.
In that meeting, Lamar Jackson did get his first career start but was just 17 of 28 for 168 yards and only ran for 18 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries.
“This is a much different team,” Houston coach Tom Hermann said.
The Cardinals were outscored 17-14 in the fourth quarter of that matchup and did allow a 100-yard kickoff return during the third quarter. U of L led with 4 minutes left in the contest.
In the series there have been six games decided by seven points or less and U of L has won four.
Houston won the first game of the series in 1950 and led 3-1 by ’63 but the two teams didn’t play again until the 1984 season when Louisville won 30-28.
