Hosting No. 15 Purdue as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, No. 14 Louisville turned to its big men on both ends of the floor throughout the evening to fuel the Cardinals to a 71-64 victory.
Raymond Spalding led the Cardinals with 11 points, on 5-of-5 shooting, and nine rebounds.
Anas Mahmoud was also perfect from the floor, hitting all four of his attempts to finish with nine points. Mangok Mathiang also had 11 points to go with eight rebounds.
The Cardinals built an early 17 point second half lead, but were unable to put away the visitors until late. A three-pointer from Spike Albreicht trimmed the once sizeable margin to just four with less than two minutes remaining. Donovan Mitchell connected for a back-to-back baskets to end the Boilermakers late rally.
U of L connected on 48 percent of its floor attempts, but just 4 of 13 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals defense kept Purdue to just 36 percent. U of L out-scored Purdue 32-18 in the paint and 28-23 from the bench.
Louisville improves to 6-1 overall. Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Arizona to face Grand Canyon on Saturday, Dec. 3. at 9p.m.
