Highlights from Card Rock 2003

Card Rock 2003 was a success as fans heard from captains Josh Minkins, Ronnie Ghent, Robert McCune and Dan Koons, as well as from Head Coach Bobby Petrino.

As the team gets ready to travel to Lexington they took some time out of their schedule to attend Card Rock 2003, a pep rally staged at the Water Tower on River Road. While the weather looked threatening, a few hundred Cardinal fans turned out to support the team. As the time for the arrival of the players and coaches neared, fans began cheering ‘C-A-R-D-S' and the Cardinal fight song filled the air.

The initial Cardmarch, a new tradition in which the team will walk through the fans tailgating at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium on game days, was tried out on the crowd Friday night. The fans lined up on either side and the players made their way through the man made tunnel.

Once the pep rally began, senior captain Josh Minkins took the show. He spent most of the time with the microphone working the crowd and getting everyone excited. "We worked our butts off over the summer and we need your support this season," said Minkins. "I have been here five years and this is my last game against Kentucky. We owe them from last year." The remaining captains, Dan Koons, Ronnie Ghent and Robert McCune also took turns addressing the crowd.

Card Rock 2003 concluded with Coach Petrino energizing the Cardinal fans on hand and said that their game plan is to use four running backs to establish a powerful running game, with the intention of winning the Governors Cup and bringing it back to Louisville.
