Oldsmar, Fla., 2018 guard Elijah Weaver said Louisville coach Rick Pitino has started to make him feel like a priority in the '18 class

Oldsmar, Fla., Christian 2018 guard Elijah Weaver said University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino has started to make him feel like a priority in the '18 class.

Oldsmar, Fla., Christian 2018 guard Elijah Weaver already has more than 20 scholarship offers and has seen some of the top college basketball programs in the country come after him during the recruiting process.

One of the first schools to offer Weaver was the University of Louisville.

The 6-foot-5 Weaver said he felt like the Cardinals had cooled a bit in recruiting him until recently when Louisville coach Rick Pitino and his staff have seemingly turned up the heat on the top 40 prospect.

"I think I am very important to them," Weaver told Cardinal Authority. "I think they have showed me that, coming to see me (on Monday) and also coming on Saturday (to a game). Just talking to them recently, they have expressed a lot of interest in me,

"They told me I am what they need to get to the next level. So, I do feel like I am a priority."

Weaver is the No. 34 prospect in the country, according to Scout.com, in the '18 class and checks in as the No. 10 point guard. Pitino and assistant coach Mike Balado saw Weaver go for 18 points, eight assists and six rebounds on Saturday night.

The U of L coaches checked in with Weaver at a practice on Monday.

"It really means a lot to me that they are checking in on me like that," Weaver said. "I love the style they play."

Weaver made a visit to the U of L campus in June and said "it felt like home." His AAU teammate and close friend, Anfernee Simons, is another 2018 top guard prospect and has already committed to Louisville.

"We were talking before my game and I was teasing him about already being committed," Weaver said of Simons. "He joked with me a little and then said, 'You should come with me.' But that was about it."

U of L is not the only school making Weaver a priority. He's also been hearing a lot from Villanova, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Miami, Florida State and Florida among others.

But Weaver said he's not ready to make any decisions.

"I'm not looking to do that any time soon," he said. "Right now, I'm focused on my high school team."
