Jakson Wine has been around the University of Louisville athletic program all his life.
His father, Robby, was a walk-on basketball player for the basketball team and his mother, Susan, was a cheerleader at U of L. Robby Wine asked his wife to marry him on his Senior Night.
So, when it came to picking a college Jakson Wine always had his eye on the Cardinals.
But the elite kicker from North Oldham High School had some other options and said he was looking around, checking out Illinois, Virginia, Iowa State, Charlotte and Murray State among others.
On Friday night, Wine committed to U of L as a preferred walk-on.
"I always had a feeling," Wine said. "But the past couple of weeks looking at some other options, it's just became apparent to me that Louisville was my best option all along. I'm so excited.
"I feel like it's a place where I can go and contribute."
The 6-foot, 200-pound Wine is rated the No. 1 kickoff specialist nationally by ProKicker.com and checks in as the No. 6 kicker overall. His average on kickoffs is 70 yards.
"That's what attracts the coaches, my kickoffs," Wine said. "But I expect to come in and compete for field goals as well."
