Cardinals improve to 10-1 on the season

Louisville improved to 10-1 on the season following a 87-56 victory over Eastern Kentucky

Following a slow start that found No. 11 Louisville trailing Eastern Kentucky 7-0 in the early minutes, the Cardinals outscored the visitors 30-4 to close the first half and spark an 87-56 win on Saturday afternoon.

The game was the 15th edition of the Billy Minardi Classic, which honors Rick Pitino's brother-in-law and best friend who died in the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.  U of L improved to 19-1 in those contests and have won 14 of the 15 classic titles.

Led by Donovan Mitchell's team-high 15 points, Louisville had four players score in double-figures.  Quentin Snider added 13 points, along with a season-high six assists, while Jaylen Johnson and Tony Hicks scored 10 points each.

Mangok Mathiang grabbed a game-high and equaled his career-high 13 rebounds, as the Cardinals outworked EKU 47-31 on the boards. 

Making his first appearance after sitting out three games while recovering from a concussion, Anas Mahmoud scored six points, collected four rebounds and swatted five shots in 16 minutes of action. 

Ray Spalding scored eight points and five rebounds to go with his career-high four blocks.

Louisville shot 48 percent from the floor, including 10 of 24 from beyond the three-point arc.

Up next for Louisville is a Wednesday contest against rival Kentucky.
