Class of 2018 junior college standout Emmit Gooden de-committed from Mississippi State on Wednesday and Louisville is a major player for the defensive tackle.

Independence Community College 2018 defensive tackle Emmit Gooden had a change of heart on the same day that Louisville and Mississippi State swapped defensive coordinators.

The 6-foot-4, 305-pound Gooden had been committed to Mississippi State. But after Mississippi State defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon was hired by Louisville and Todd Grantham went from Louisville to Starkville for the same position, Gooden de-committed.

Gooden said he was going to "re-open the process."

An hour after he tweeted the news, Gooden told Cardinal Authority that he was already talking with other schools. When asked if Louisville was a player now in his recruitment, Gooden said "Yes sir, talking to them as we speak right now."

Gooden was a four-star prospect during his career at Brownsville, Tenn., Haywood and at one time was committed to Tennessee. He picked Mississippi State over LSU coming out of high school but had to attend junior college.

He had 10 or more tackles in three games last season at Independence and has offers from U of L, Alabama and Missouri.

Gooden is the younger brother of former Mississippi State basketball standout Jarvis Varnado, who has spent time with the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers. He's currently playing pro ball in Istanbul.
