BIO: A two-way star at Ensworth, Rodney Owens was the No. 12 player among those listed in Middle Tennessee by the Nashville Tennessean. Owens had 53 catches for 795 yards and seven touchdowns. He also had 49 tackles, including 46 solos, one interception and eight pass break ups. He played in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl and won a basketball and football title last year in the same school year.
LEAD RECRUITER: Chris Klenakis
RECRUITMENT: Owens made his pick during the summer, going with the Cardinals over Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Memphis and Cincinnati.
WHY U OF L: Owens said he picked the Cardinals because it's close enough that his family can see him play and the program will "get me to the next level."
EXPECTED MAJOR: Business
EVALUATION: Owens had eight pass breakups as a senior, which shows he's a guy who will win a battle. He also had some TD catches on offense where he went up and took it away from the defender. Could be a nickel-type secondary guy for the Cardinals.
QUOTABLE: "I just had a great time when I was there with the players and the coaches and my family had a great time too," Owens said. "It was pretty cool to see where they see me and was nice to get the next step."
BOTTOM LINE: Owens could play either side of the ball but is another body to throw in the mix next fall in the secondary.
