BIO: A late commitment earlier in the week, Toryque Bateman is ranked as one of the top players in the state of Alabama and one of the top offensive tackles in the South. Bateman was named All-Region and All-County two years in a row.
LEAD RECRUITER: L.D. Scott
RECRUITMENT: Bateman had 19 offers in all, picking U of L over Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State and Memphis.
WHY U OF L: Bateman said the opportunity to protect Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson, which would mean early playing time, was a huge reason why he picked the Cardinals.
EXPECTED MAJOR: Business
EVALUATION: Bateman grew up a basketball player and he still runs the court and displays his athleticism on the hardcourt, but football is his future. Still raw fundamentally, so he can improve his technique, and he has still a lot to learn, but he has the frame, he has great length, his is athletic, and he has real upside at offensive tackle. A natural bender. An OL who can move in space. Still has to work on hands and body control, but a lot to like. - Scout.com
QUOTABLE: "Every since they started recruiting me, and that was in the eighth-grade, they have been behind me 100 percent. It just felt like the place I wanted to be and it felt like home to me," Bateman said.
BOTTOM LINE: Louisville is making a lot of additions to the offensive line; Bateman is perhaps the one guy that could use a redshirt year to develop his body a little more physically, but he will get a shot at playing time.
