University of Louisville Class of 2017 Football Class: Signed S Anthony Johnson

University of Louisville Class of 2017 Football Class: Signed S Anthony Johnson. Cardinal Authority takes a closer look at the Cardinals signee.

BIO: A three-star prospect, Anthony Johnson helped lead his team to the Florida state championship as a senior and was named All-County and All-Region for two seasons. As a junior, Johnson had 20 tackles, 10 pass break ups and three interceptions and had just a little better stats as a senior on a loaded team that went to the state finals.

RECRUITMENT: Johnson committed at the Friday Night Lights Camp in July and picked the Cardinals over offers from South Florida, Pittsburgh and Western Kentucky. He had a total of five offers.

WHY U OF L: Dennison did a really nice job with Johnson, locking him down and then watching him perform well at camp, with Johnson noting the need for added depth in the secondary.

EVALUATION: Johnson is equipped with some versatility and intriguing physical characteristics, but projects best patrolling the back end at free safety.Johnson shows decent anticipation and change of direction when reacting to the ball, but needs to make better use of his size by attacking the ball at its highest point and wrapping up in space. He's coveted for his covering ability, as well as his prototypical size and length. -

QUOTABLE: "It just has such a family feel," he said. "Everybody knows each other going around town, everybody is so friendly."

BOTTOM LINE: Johnson says the staff has told him with his size and abilities that he can play right away; the Cardinals need depth in the secondary and he's a good one.
