University of Louisville Class of 2017 Football Class: Signed OL Mekhi Becton

University of Louisville Class of 2017 Football Class: Signed OL Mekhi Becton. Cardinal Authority takes a closer look at the Cardinals signee.

BIO: A signing day decision, Mekhi Becton helped his high school team go 14-1 this past season and repeat as Class 5-A state champions. Becton was a repeat member of the All-State team. He's also a standout in basketball for Highland Springs.

LEAD RECRUITER: Lonnie Galloway

RECRUITMENT: Becton picked the Cardinals over Virginia Tech, Michigan, Oregon and Virginia.

WHY U OF L: Becton said he really liked Galloway and was drawn by the early playing time at U of L.

EVALUATION: Becton is a huge offensive tackle prospect. He has a great frame, bends well and is extremely athletic. Becton gets off the ball quickly and has a strong initial punch. He's very mobile and is an effective run and pass blocker. Becton's pad level is too high at times and he needs to improve his overall technique, but he has a huge upside and his best football is definitely ahead of him.

QUOTABLE: "I like the fact that he is straightforward with me and doesn't sugarcoat anything," Becton said of Galloway. "He told me I'd have a chance to play early. We also talked about the type of offense they run."

BOTTOM LINE: Becton was huge signing day news for the Cardinals, perhaps some of the biggest in school history. He's a massive=sized tackle who will play early on.
