Recruiting Blitz

The phone calls from coaches have started and ITV is once again tracking Cardinal prospects as you have come to expect. Today's recruiting blitz provides updates on two offensive linemen, Ramon Foster and Gary Williams, as well as a list of some of the top players in the Bluegrass State who have recently received a call from the Louisville coaching staff.

College coaches are now permitted to begin evaluating prospects and can continue to do so until February 1st of next year. However, there are stipulations in what coaches can do. At this point, coaches are able to call prospects (once per week), request official visits (maximum 56 requests) and visit high schools.

Beginning December 1st coaches are given more opportunities to visit face-to-face with prospects, visit high schools and take in-home visits to prospects homes.

As always the holiday period surrounding the end of the year is a dead period.

So, what does this all mean? It means that the Cardinal football staff is not only preparing for games against Syracuse and others, but that they are also spending quite a bit of time on the telephone calling prospects.

ITV is doing our best to find out who the coaches are calling and may eventually extend an invitation for an official visit.

Here's what we know so far...

Ramon Foster
Ramon Foster should be a familiar name...he is the younger brother of Cardinal redshirt freshman offensive lineman Renardo Foster. At 6'7, 290-pounds, Ramon is bigger than Renardo was at this stage and like his older brother, he is projected as an offensive tackle.

Ramon recently received a phone call from Coach Jeff Brohm and also had an opportunity to speak with Coach Bobby Petrino during the call. In addition to Louisville, he has already received calls from Arkansas, Tennessee, Michigan State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

During the summer Ramon made up trip up from his home in Ripley, Tenn., to visit his brother and the Louisville football facilities.

"Everything was pretty state of the art," Ramon explained. "Everything seems new there and I liked that a lot, nothing seemed old."

He currently counts scholarship offers from Louisville, Tennessee, Michigan State, Ole Miss and Mississippi State and considers each to be among his favorites.

"They are all about even right now," said Foster. "I'm not ready to call anyone a real favorite."

Gary Williams
Offensive lineman Gary Williams is a local prospect that plays for Louisville Seneca. The 6'4, 270-pound offensive lineman informed us on Wednesday evening that he has received calls from Louisville's Greg Nord and Kentucky's Joker Phillips so far.

Williams, who is also getting considerable attention from Cincinnati and Middle Tennessee State, informed ITV that he has received a scholarship offer from Kentucky and that despite growing up a Cardinal fan, that the Wildcats are his current favorite because of the offer.

Williams also told ITV that he may commit somewhat early, most likely during the middle of the high school football season.

Maurice Mitchell
The first commitment of the 2004 Louisville recruiting class, Mitchell also received a recent phone call from Coach Nord.

Others that have recently received a call from the Cardinal coaching staff...

QB Brian Brohm (Louisville Trinity)
LB Brandon Gathof (Oldham County)
OL Micah Jones (Mayfield)
WR Mario Urrutia (Louisville Fern Creek)
OL Myron Pryor (Louisville Eastern)

ITV will continue uncovering what prospects the coaches are calling and will provide frequest Recruiting Blitzes and prospect updates until signing day.
