Louisville freshman VJ King will miss the Virginia Tech game with a bruised thigh; expected to only miss one game

The University of Louisville freshman VJ King will miss the Virginia Tech game with a bruised thigh. U of L coach Rick Pitino said King is expected to only miss one game.

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino confirmed on Friday afternoon that freshman wing V.J. King will miss Saturday's game against Virginia Tech with an injury.

Pitino said King suffered a thigh bruise in practice. He's expecting him to only miss one game.

The 6-foot-6 King averages 6.7 points and 2.3 rebounds a game for the Cardinals mostly off the bench this season. The former McDonald's All-American has hit 16 of 35 from three-point range this season.

With the loss of King for one game, Pitino said walk-on Jay Henderson is going to have to play more minutes. Henderson has scored 13 points in 27 minutes on the season.

"He hasn't played much this season for us, but hopefully he will," Pitino said.

Pitino also said guard Tony Hicks will miss "two more weeks" with his broken hand. He said an X-ray on Friday gave the Cardinals some bad news and Hicks needed more time to mend.

"We're out four scholarships again," Pitino noted.
