Louisville was among the first to extend a scholarship offer to West Palm Beach (Fla.) Oxford Academy linebacker Herman McCray IV and it has left quite the impression.
"I surprised when they offered me," he told Cardinal Authority. "I watch the team play every weekend and it seems like it's still unreal that I can play for them."
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound outside linebacker, who also plays tight end, has not only kept track of the play of the Cardinals, but has also done a bit of research on the school since collecting that offer last July.
"Looking at the pictures I looked at of the campus it looks like a good place to visit," he said, adding that he's the process of figuring out a trip to the Derby City.
Louisville assistant Cort Dennison is serving as the primary recruiter.
"They say I play big and physical," said McCray.
In addition to U of L, McCray also holds offers from Florida Atlantic, Florida A&M and Iowa State. Kentucky, NC State, South Carolina and Virginia Tech are among the others expressing an interest.
"I'm loving the recruiting process," he said, also admitting that one program current holds the edge. "Louisville is sticking out so far."
