Four-star tight end hopes to visit Louisville soon

Cincinnati La Salle tight end Josh Whyle collected a Louisville scholarship offer on Wednesday

One of the highest-rated tight ends in the nation received a scholarship offer from Louisville this week.

Cincinnati La Salle's Josh Whyle is a four-star prospect with more than 20 scholarship offers, including multiple programs from the ACC, Big 10 and SEC.  U of L assistant Chris Klenakis put Louisville officially on Whyle's offer sheet on Wednesday.

"Coach Klenakis surprised me with it and I was pumped," Whyle told Cardinal Authority.  "It was super exciting. I can't wait to go there with my family and visit."

The Cardinals offer will impact the recruiting process, but the 6-foot-5, 215-pound tight end isn't ready to trim his constantly growing list of options.

"It's up there on my list, but it's hard to say without visiting," he said.  "I don't want to narrow anything down quite yet."

What's a certain is the frequent inclusion of the tight end in the Bobby Petrino's passing attack makes Louisville an attractive option for Whyle.

"Absolutely," he said.  "If you have watched my film, that's what my coaches used me as a lot this past season. I think route running and catching is one of my biggest strengths."

As a junior, Whyle helped La Salle win a third consecutive state title by hauling in 40 receptions for 546 yards and six touchdowns, earning first-team All-GLC honors.

He has visited numerous programs and hopes to visit Louisville, Ohio State, Indiana and others during the coming weeks.  Auburn, Cincinnati, Duke, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Oregon, Purdue and Tennessee are among the others to extend an offer.

"I just hope i can build a relationship with the coaches and learn more about the program," he said.  "I want to know all about their academic programs and also other tight ends that are committed and how many they have in roster."
