Louisville has extended a football scholarship to former DeSales High School star Bryant Pirtle, who is at Pima Community College

University of Louisville has extended a football scholarship to former DeSales High School star Bryant Pirtle, who is at Pima Community College. He was originally committed as part of the Class of 2015 for Western Kentucky.

Bryant Pirtle picked up a scholarship offer that he's always dreamed of on Thursday.

The former DeSales High School standout is now at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz., and confirmed that he landed an offer from the University of Louisville staff.

"I have been talking to them a lot," Pirtle said. "Coach (Pete) Nochta, coach (L.D.) Scott and coach (Chris Klenakis). I haven't really thought about (a favorite) because I'm trying to focus on what I need to do to get out of here."

But Pirtle said the U of L offer is "really cool."

"I miss being back home," he said. "So, it's definitely big for me."

Pirtle helped lead DeSales to the Class 2-A state championship in 2013 and '14 and had a ceremony at school where he signed with Western Kentucky. But he never joined the Toppers program.

As a senior, Pirtle had 82 tackles, 19 sacks and five fumble recoveries, while also rushing for 650 yards and nine touchdowns. He was a two-time first-team All-State selection in high school.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Pirtle had 29 tackles, four tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks as a freshman at Pima last fall.

"I don't know that I have really improved as much as I am just focused on the things I need to be focused on now," Pirtle said. "I'm focused on my school work and class room. I'm trying to do what I need to do."

Pirtle also has offers from Purdue and Utah State.
