Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe cornerback Steven Gilmore is quickly becoming one most sought-after prospects at his position in the region and saw Louisville join the pursuit on Wednesday.
"I was appreciative because I been wanting that offer," he told Cardinal Authority shortly after learning of the offer. "I know that their program is moving in a positive direction."
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound defensive back also holds FBS offers from Duke, East Carolina, Georgia and home-state South Carolina. A number of others, including multiple ACC programs are also expressing high interest.
The Cardinals interest spiked when Lorenzo Ward joined the staff as secondary coach. The two had built a prior relationship while Ward was on the Gamecocks staff and have remained in frequent contact since.
Per Gilmore, Ward informed him of the scholarship offer and claims the two have a healthy relationship.
"It's a good one because I know about him and he really shows interests," he said.
Scout ranks Gilmore among the top 100 cornerbacks nationally and No. 37 in the south. A rising three-star propsect, he's the No. 1 cornerback in South Carolina.
