Freshman pitcher Nick Bennett twirls a four-hitter for seven innings; Louisville gets seven in the seventh for a 10-0 win over Duke

Freshman pitcher Nick Bennett twirls a four-hitter for seven innings; Louisville gets seven in the seventh for a 10-0 win over Duke on Sunday to win the series 2-1 this weekend at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Freshman pitcher Nick Bennett did it again.

The native of Cincinnati, Ohio, was sensational on Sunday in a rubber game the University of Louisville baseball team needed. Bennett twirled seven innings of four hit baseball and Riley Thompson allowed one hit over the final two innings as the Cardinals rallied after a Friday night loss to beat Duke 10-0 and win the series 2-1.

"Nick was really good," U of L coach Dan McDonnell said. "At some point, you are not a freshman anymore. We've played a lot of games and he's pitched in a lot of big situations. He was good for us."

It was the third time in seven ACC series this season that U of L had to win the Sunday game. The Cardinals have not lost a series in nine weekend series this season, including seven in the ACC.

The Cardinals accumulated their eighth shutout of the season and are now 11-1 in rubber games in three years of playing in the ACC and have only lost three series in three years of league play.

Louisville is 33-6 this season and 17-4 in league play - one game ahead of Clemson in the ACC Atlantic Division.

On offense, the Cardinals got three in the second and seven in the seventh for the 10 runs. Devin Mann had a two-run double in the second, while Devin Hairston added a two-run double in the seventh.

U of L plays five games this coming week.
