2019 wing Akok Akok was offered by Louisville last week; talks about the offer after another stellar weekend with Mass Rivals

Putnam, Conn., Science Academy 2019 wing Akok Akok is starting to gain a ton of college interest after two impressive weekends with the Mass Rivals on the adidas Gauntlet circuit last month.

Among the offers for Akok was the University of Louisville. He said U of L assistant coach Kenny Johnson, who landed Noah Vonleh off the Mass Rivals team while he was at Indiana, is the lead recruiter.

And the 6-foot-8 Akok said the Cardinals are intriguing.

"I have been watching Louisville for a few years and coach (Rick) Pitino is a great coach," Akok said. "Louisville is a great ACC school and a great program. They have a really good style of play.

"I really like the style and think it's somewhere I would fit in. I love watching them play."

Akok, who played her first season at Putnam last year after coming from Manchester, N.H., has also added offers from North Carolina State, Virginia Tech, Providence and several others. He's also heard from a bunch of other schools.

"Yes, there's a lot of interest," he said.

Akok led the adidas event in Dallas with 5.5 blocked shots a game and then led last weekend in the Atlanta area with 5.0 blocks a game. But he said at the next level he wants to be a wing.

"I am comfortable playing the wing," he said. "I don't like to be down there in the post except block a lot of shots on defense.

"I still feel like I have to get better at putting the ball on the floor and creating for my teammates."
