Louisville extended a scholarship offer to Bossier City (La.) Parkway safety Israel Mukuamu on Tuesday and it immediately lifted the Cardinals program among the three-star prospects favorites.
"I'm really excited about this offer," he told Cardinal Authority. "It's a power 5 and will be in my top schools list for sure."
At 6-foot-4, 190-pounds, Mukuamu is a sizeable secondary prospect that is attracting attention from many college coaches. Indiana, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Purdue, South Carolina and Wake Forest are among the more than a dozen to offer a scholarship.
"It's been a roller coaster, but things are rolling now," he said of the recruiting process. "It's been fun but crazy. It's truly an exciting experience though. Visiting these colleges are crazy to me because I see them in the video games and then when I go visit it's so surreal. I'm enjoying every moment."
The Louisville offer came following a day of watching him practice and then a lengthy phone conversation.
"Coach (Nick) Petrino offered me today," he said. "He's the QB coach he actually came to my spring practice yesterday, then offered me today about an hour ago over the phone. He said he likes my length, size and the athletic ability that I have being so tall. He said he likes how I play the safety position and I could easily be a first rounder."
Mukuamu anticipates making a trip to the Derby City to visit the Cardinals program this summer and then will begin trimming his list of schools.
"I'm dropping my top schools at the end of June or beginning of July," he said. "I'm still evaluating hard for my top schools."
Mukuamu is rated as the nation's No. 85 safety prospect and is No. 25 in the south region.
