University of Louisville baseball coach Dan McDonnell announced on Thursday that junior right-hander Kade McClure would pitch the opening game of the Super Regional on Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-7 McClure, a first-team All-American last season, will get the start against Kentucky at noon in Jim Patterson Stadium.
"We just feel like he is the guy that will set the tone and do what we need him to do," McDonnell said. "We are very confident in his ability."
McClure is 20-4 for his career and is 7-3 with 3.63 ERA this season as the No. 2 pitcher for the Cardinals.
U of L started McClure on Friday during the ACC Tournament and he started on Friday last week with McDonnell noting the rest "just made sense" to bring him back in game one.
Freshman Zack Thompson (8-2, 3.52 ERA) will start for Kentucky.
