Palacios impressed by Pitino

ITV RECRUITING EXCLUSIVE -- Coach Pitino met with 6'8 PF Tello Palacios last Thursday and Our Savior New American Head Coach Ron Stelzer spoke with ITV about the visit.

Last Thurday, University of Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino and assistant Kevin Willard traveled to Long Island, NY to visit with prized recruiting target, Tello Palacios.

Pitino, who has now met with Palacios twice, once last April and again last week, to lay out his recruiting pitch to the Jamal Mashburn play-a-like. Pitino has heavily pursued the talented power forward since at least last fall, catching Palacios in action in Delaware and Dayton last season.

Sandwiched between visits with 6'9 Brian Johnson and 6'0 Sebastian Telfair, Pitino impressed Palacios last Thursday at Our Savior New American, according to OSNA Head Coach Ron Stelzer.

"He had a very nice visit with the coaches," Stelzer said. "He [Palacios] visited for about an hour with Coach Pitino and Coach Willard. There is nothing wrong about what they presented to him. They were very impressive."

Stelzer indicated that the 6'8 forward from Columbia won't rush a decision and wants to check into all options before making his decision.

"He's not going to make a decision right away," Stelzer said. "He wants to hear from everybody first before he decides."

Last week, Palacios heard from Louisville, Baylor, Pittsburgh and UCLA. This week, Florida and Florida State come in and Tennessee, Valpariso and Texas are also involved. Palacios has scheduled one official visit, to Florida, at this point.

"I'm waiting for the visits to end and then I'll decide which ones I'm going to visit and then I'll see what happens," Palacios told late last week.

"The coaches are the important thing and the people you're going to be around," Palacios said. "You're looking for a place where you're the important part of the time and you'll get exposure for the NBA."
