James Davis update

ITV RECRUITING EXCLUSIVE -- 7'0 James Davis has enrolled at Garden City C.C. and several college coaches will soon be making their way to watch the big fellow work out. Garden City Head Coach updated ITV on Davis' recruitment and progress.

7'0 James Davis, originally from Minneapolis, MN, nearly decided to walk-on to the University of Louisville basketball team and play for Coach Rick Pitino last spring.

Instead, Davis made his way to Garden City (KS) C.C., where he'll spend the next two seasons honing his skills under former St. Catherine (KY) C.C. Head Coach Ryan Swanson.

Swanson told Inside TheVille.com Monday morning that coaches from Kansas, Kansas State and Illinois have phoned to indicate they'll be dropping by to check on Davis' progress and watch him work out at the Garden City gymnasium.

Davis, who averaged 17 points and 15 rebounds last season and led his high school team to the Minnesota State Title, is recovering from neumonia that kept him out of action the past week and half. According to Swanson, Davis was expected to be cleared to return on Monday.

Last spring, U of L coaches were very involved in the 7'0 foot center's recruitment, but according to Swanson the Cards haven't called recently, though Swanson welcomed the Cardinal coaching staff to reinvolve themselves.

"I know Vince and Scotty [Davenport]," Swanson said. "They're always welcome to recruit any of my guys."

Swanson is very high on Davis' potential and size.

"He's the best prospect I've ever had," said Swanson, who also coached former UofL forward Tobiah Hopper. "He knows how to score around the basket and has a good head for the game. He's not the most athletic, but he can get up and down the floor."

Inside TheVille.com will continue to monitor Davis' progress and recruitment in the future.
