Petrino Stays!!

What a long strange night it was. Late Tuesday evening Auburn President William Walker admitted visiting with Louisville Head Coach Bobby Petrino. Hours later, Petrino announced that he is committed to building the Cardinal football program.

Speculation by University of Louisville fans was running rampant over the past week on the message boards of, peaking on Tuesday evening when Auburn President William Walker released a statement that he, along with Auburn Athletic Director David Housel and two members of the Board of Trustees flew to Louisville to visit with the Cardinals head coach.

Later last night, Coach Bobby Petrino told the Courier-Journal what Cardinal fans wanted to hear, "I'm going to stay here at the University of Louisville. It's the place I want to be and the job I want." (Click here for entire C-J story).

Petrino continued preparing the team for the regular season contest against Cincinnati on Tuesday afternoon, but due to the high interest in the coaching situation at Auburn, asked that the media not visit with the players following the practice session.

After an expected meeting with the team Wednesday morning, the Cardinal head coach will conduct the weeks final full practice before the Thanksgiving holiday and heading to Cincinnati on Thursday evening.

"I think [this season] is a good beginning to have a chance to win the [Conference USA] Championship next year and then move into the BIG EAST," said Petrino on Monday of his team's chances to improve to 9-3 on Friday.

With the bulk of this years team, along with an expected impressive recruiting class, Coach Petrino appears to have the Cardinals poised for making a strong entrance into the BIG EAST Conference and a possible BCS Bowl in 2005.

Kick off for the contest against Cincinnati is 11:00 a.m.
