Buchanan racks up awards

Cornerback Bobby Buchanan talked to Inside theVille about his recent visit to Illinois, his state championship and more.

Bobby Buchanan, one of the most popular football prospects among Cardinal fans had a great senior season at Joliet Catholic Academy, where he helped guide his team to a final record of 13-1 and the school's 11th state crown.

To date, Buchanan has racked up numerous honors, including All-Conference, All-Area, All-Midwest and All-State.

On the season Buchanan had six interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. He also recorded 35 total tackles. Offensively, he rushed for over 400 yards, averaging 9.1 yards a carry.

In the championship game, in which Joliet Catholic Academy defeated Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 24-21, Buchanan played well on both sides of the ball before being sidelined in the fourth quarter because of an injury to his neck. With his team leading 24-7, Springfield was able to throw the ball effectively once Buchanan went out, making a strong comeback attempt, falling just short. Buchanan, who also plays runningback, also scored a touchdown on an 8-yard run, giving his team a 17-0 third quarter lead. Since the end of his season, Buchanan has been rehabbing his neck, having recently returned to the weight room, as well as taking his first official visit.

"I started lifting weights again on Monday," Buchanan told ITV. "If felt good to be back in there and I was surprised at how much that I was already able to do."

This past weekend he made an official visit to Illinois, a program that he provided a verbal commitment to earlier this year. He has since stated that is still heavily interested in playing at Louisville.

"It was real fun," explained Buchanan of his visit to Champaign. "I got to know some of the players real well. I met with [Illinois Head Coach] Ron Turner in his office for awhile and he told me how they would like to use me next year."

Louisville assistant coach Reggie Johnson, who was apart of the Cardinal defense that also included Bobby's older brother Bobby, has been keeping frequent contact with the talented cornerback.

"He called [on Monday]," continued Buchanan, who will make an official to U of L on the weekend of January 16th . "He also came to our last practice before the championship game."

Buchanan, who told Inside theVille that he grew up a fan of the Cardinals, as well as Miami and Northwestern, will choose between the Louisville and Illinois.

Also one of the top track performers in the State of Illinois, Buchanan anticipates finishing his season with a possible state title on the track as well.

Louisville is also recruiting two of Buchanan's teammates, 6'5, 275-pound Erik Madsen and 6'5, 295-pound OL/DL Jim Jadron. Stay tuned to ITV for updates on these two Joliet linemen.
