Mario Urrutia down to U of L, UK

Will Lonnell DeWalt's verbal committment to Kentucky, benefit U of L with Fern Creek standout Mario Urrutia? The 6'6 two-sport star spoke with Inside The Ville about his recruitment following a first round LIT victory over Doss on Monday.

6'6 Fern Creek two-sport standout Mario Urrutia told Inside The Ville over the weekend that he enjoyed his official visit to the University of Louisville last weekend.

Following Monday afternoon's opening Louisville Invitational Tournament game against Doss, Urrutia said he still hasn't reached a decision, though he's closer to one now than ever.

"I'm still up in the air between U of L and UK," Urritia said Monday.

Urrutia talked about what he liked about each school.

"The coaching staff is real cool and I think I'd have a good chance to play right away," Urrutia said of Kentucky.

"Probably because of the offense and they put up a lot of numbers," Urrutia explained of Louisville.

Over the weekend, Warren Central (KY) standout Lonnell Dewalt verbally committed to the University of Kentucky. Urrutia, who plays the same position as Dewalt, said he wasn't aware of Dewalt's decision and would have to talk with his parents before knowing what impact it would have on his decision.

"No, I didn't know that," Urrutia said of Dewalt's verbal committment to Kentucky.

"It does a little bit but not really," Urrutia continued of Dewalt's committment on his decision. "I'll have to talk with parents and see what they think."

Urrutia also said he'd be taking his last official visit this weekend and the Big Ten's Indiana Hoosiers will be his host.

"That's actually going to be my last visit," Urrutia said. "I'm going to go up there this weekend."

When asked when he'd announce his decision, Urrutia said, "Probably more than likely next week."

There's also been some talk about Nebraska's interest, but Urrutia all but ruled out the Cornhuskers.

"They had offered," he said of the previous coaching staff. "No, it wasn't coach Callahan [that called recently] it was one of the websites and they told me about the new coaches instituting the west coast offense. It would be good for me but really I think it's a little bit too late."

As he nears his decision, does Urrutia feel any family pressure to stay close to home?

"Not really from my parents, it's more from my friends..they want to watch me play," Urrutia said.
