6'3 Maurice Grinter of Louisville Fairdale was the top performer at the opening session of the 2004 Coca-Cola/Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament Tuesday.

Grinter, a 6'3 junior, led the Bulldogs to a come from behind last second victory over fifth seeded Trinity. Down one with 5.2 seconds remaining, Fairdale inbounded to Grinter, who drove baseline around Trinity's Brian Brohm and layed the game winning basket in at the buzzer.

Grinter used nice post moves and finished well around the hoop for a game high 23 points.

Davin Anderson, Freshman, Doss - Anderson, a 5'10 guard starts for the Dragons and is one of the better freshman we've seen in the city so far this season. He has good vision and made a nice bounce pass for an assist after making a steal near midcourt. He's more a slasher but is a good athlete and has a decent stroke.

Robert Buckner, Sophomore, Eastern - Liked Buckner at the Marshall County Hoop Fest in earlier December and still do. He's one of the better sophs in town and at 6'1 he's well put together for a guard. Can drain jumpers out past the arch.

Charlie Gonzolez, Junior, Trinity - Doesn't get a lot of PT for the Shamrocks but at 6'8, 230 he makes the most of his minutes. You have to like a big man who doesn't bring the ball down for the guards to swipe at. He possesses good hands and a nice stroke.

  • Brian Brohm, though listed at 6'4, is probably closer to 6'2.
  • Jeff and Greg Brohm attended Brian's game against Fairdale, sitting behind the south endzone and staying very low key.
  • Maurice Grinter receives tons of mail but nobody's really gotten serious about the junior yet, according to Fairdale head coach Lloyd Gardner. We know Western Kentucky really likes him, though.
  • With 6'5 forward Brandon Hambey sidelined with a knee injury, Fern Creek relies heavily on 6'6 Mario Urrutia for both scoring and rebounding production. When Urrutia fouled out, the Tigers looked very beatable.
