Buchanan makes trip to Louisville

One of the top prospects among Louisville fans is Bobby Buchanan of Joliet Catholic Academy in Illinois. Buchanan, who has given Illinois a verbal commitment, recently spoke with ITV about his interest in Louisville.

When Cardinal fans talk about the possible recruiting class for this season two names always surface...Brian Brohm and Bobby Buchanan. Not only are they wanted for their abilities on the gridiron, but also because of the family ties to the Cardinal football program. Like Brohm, Buchanan is the younger brother of a former Cardinal great in Ray Buchanan, who now plays for the Atlanta Falcons.

With Buchanan, it has long been a two team race. Illinois and Louisville have continually topped his list. Prior to the kickoff of the 2003 season, Buchanan made a verbal commitment to the Illinois coaching staff, but continued to express interest in Louisville.

While Bobby, who will be joined by his older brother Ray on his visit this weekend, remains committed to Illinois, he told Inside theVille that he felt he needed to make an official trip to Louisville.

"I'm still committed to Illinois, but I want to make sure that I made the right decision," explained Buchanan. "I don't want to have any regrets about where I may go."

Illinois has continued to impress Buchanan with their constant attention to his academic situation.

"The Illinois coaches have set me up with a tutor already," continued Buchanan, who is expected to be fully eligible. "I hear from them every week and they always ask how I am doing with my course work."

An interesting twist with his recruiting by both schools occurred with Illinois fired their defensive coordinator Mike Cassity, who was then hired by Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino to oversee the Cardinals safties.

"I have talked to Coach Cassity," Buchanan said. "He told me that he likes my man coverage skills and my physicalness. He talked to me about having me do some blitzing, which I really like because I've never done that."

While Buchanan is still considered an Illinois commitment, a final and solid decision will likely come following his return home this weekend.
