But the 5'11, 225-pound linebacker from Lakeland, Florida decided Louisville was a better fit after visiting the River City over the weekend.
"The visit went really good," Axson, who was hosted by freshman safety Brandon Sharp said. "I loved the atmosphere and the friendly folks in Louisville. The basketball game was awesome. We sat right on the floor by the cheerleaders. The fans really get into their sports at Louisville."
Now that's he's changed his mind once, is there a chance he could reconsider again?
"I won't change my mind again," Axson assured. "Louisville's on top and I'll sign with them on signing day. After my visit, Louisville just came out on top of Kansas."
Axson, who ranks among the top 100 linebackers in the nation by TheInsiders, says the U of L coaches have said there's a chance he'll see early playing time next season as a freshman at the MIKE linebacker position behind Robert McCunne and on special teams.
Axson, who is a friend of fellow U of L commit Lamar Myles, was an all-state and all-region selection as a junior after posting 129 tackles and 26 TFL's. Axson, considered one of the top ten linebackers in the state of Florida this season, made 98 tackles, 26 TFLs as a senior.
For his career, Axson accounted for 403 tackles and choose Louisville over scholarship offers from Kansas, Iowa State, and South Florida.
