Louisville Male's McKinney picks Cardinals

Stephen McKinney is the latest Louisville Male Bulldog to decide to continue his football career at U of L.

Size and speed are common in this season's crop of Cardinal recruits and Louisville Male's Steve McKinney provides both.

Playing both wide receiver and defensive back at Male, McKinney utilized his 6'3, 190-pound frame to his advantage and despite last season being his only year of high school football, McKinney impressed many.

"[Male High School] Coach Bob Redman believes that Stephen can play at a very high level," said Stephen's father Frank McKinney. "Coach Redman also told me that he believes that he is the best cover guy in the state."

McKinney, who received a scholarship offer to play at Western Kentucky, will join the Cardinal football program while attending U of L on an academic scholarship, but that doesn't mean that fans shouldn't expect to see the young prospect on the field of play.

"Coach Redman believes that he could have NFL potential," continued McKinney.

Having coached a number of Division I athletes, it's unlikely that Bob Redman would just dish out such impressive words.

Steve, who will play in the secondary in college, met with U of L defensive back coach Joe Whitt Jr. and secondary coach Mike Cassity during his visit this past weekend.

Additionally, Steve is very close to his cousin James McKinney, who will be one of the most sought after players in the region as a senior. With Steve now preparing to suit up for the Cardinals, it appears that U of L now has the inside track on James, who as a junior, gave Michigan a soft verbal commitment.
