Smith, the Cardinals starting kicker the past three seasons, recently was selected by the USA Tomahawks of the America National Rugby League.
Though he's never played rugby before, Smith was an All-America soccer player at Pleasure Ridge Park High School and was recently timed in 4.38 seconds in the forty yard dash at the NFL combine, making him an ideal candidate for the sport of Rugby.
Smith and the Tomahawks are currently on a four match swing though the Outback, and will return from Australia later this month to prepare for an extensive international rugby season.
So perhaps former Louisville head coach John L. Smith actually did know what he was doing two years ago by asking Smith to repeatedly perform those rugby punts. At last we've figured it out. He was preparing Nate for his future career as a professional rugby player.
