All-Stars arrive, minus UL signee Brian Johnson

Players for the Derek Anderson Derby Festival Basketball Classic will arrive in town today, minus U of L signee Brian Johnson. Two Louisville signees, Lorrenzo Wade and Terrance Farley will participate along with Cardinals recruit Churchill Odia.

Saturday, April 24, the Derek Anderson Derby Festival Basketball Classic will feature some of the top prep players in the nation, including recruits from the University of Louisville, University of Kentucky and Indiana University. The 32nd annual game will tip off at 7:00 PM at Freedom Hall.

Local hoops fans will get a preview of players committed to play at some of the top collegiate programs, including Syracuse, Mississippi State, UCLA and Arizona. Of special interest to area basketball fans will be UL-bound Lorenzo Wade and Terrance Farley; UK recruits Ramel Bradley and Adam Williams; and IU-bound A.J. Ratliff, Robert Vaden and James Hardy. Churchill Odia and Chris Lofton are undecided.

Odia, who committed last fall to Xavier but did not sign a binding letter of intent, is currently considering Louisville and is expected to make a visit to U of L while in town for the all-star classic.

One noted deletion from the roster is Louisville signee Brian Johnson.  Johnson, who played last weekend in Jordan Capital Classic All-Star game, will not participate due to an injured knee.

The week's roundball activities will kick off with the Derek Anderson Derby Festival Night of the Future Stars on Friday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at Bellarmine University's Knights Hall.  Admission is free with a ticket to the Basketball Classic. Some of the event's most exciting moments have come during the Slam Dunk and 2-on-2 contests and the 3-point shootout. The competition will also feature an autograph-signing session immediately following the event.

"This year's Basketball Classic will showcase some of the best basketball talent in the country," said Dan Owens, Basketball Classic Recruiting Chairman. "Several players from last year's Classic played important roles for teams advancing to the NCAA Tournament. This is a great chance for local hoops fans to see these future stars up close and personal. We're thrilled to have Derek Anderson and his Foundation associated with the game again this year."

Anderson, currently a starting guard for the NBA's Portland Trailblazers, is a 1992 graduate of Doss High School, Anderson was a member of the University of Kentucky's 1996 national championship team and played in the 1992 Derby Festival Basketball Classic. He will be in attendance at the game this year with the Trailblazers having been eliminated from the NBA playoffs.

Anderson's D.A. Enterprises, which encompasses several business ventures and a charitable enterprise, joins existing contributing sponsors Nike, Delta Air Lines, BellSouth and Full Court in presenting this game. Proceeds will benefit the Derek Anderson Foundation. D.A. Enterprises, along with several sponsors, is providing Basketball Classic tickets to more than 650 members of area community centers.
