Louisville offers Daytona Beach signal-caller

A recent scholarship offer from the University of Louisville has vaulted the Cardinals up the list for 6'5 Daytona Beach quarterback Jonathan Garner.

Mainland High School star quarterback Jonathan Garner (Daytona Beach, Fla.) has had a number of schools come by to watch him during the first half of the May evaluation period.

Ole Miss, UConn, North Carolina, Ohio State, Duke, Clemson, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, USF, UCF are some of the interested parties involved and many of them are following up on the letters, postcards and pamphlets they have been sending in their recruiting campaigns.

But it was a visitor from a Conference USA school who popped by on Thursday and dropped some unexpected news.

"Coach [Tony] Levine from Louisville just gave me an offer," Garner said. "It happened after I had a pretty rough practice, so I couldn't really believe it. He just asked me who all offered then said to add Louisville to that list. This was kind of out of the blue because I had only gotten a few things in the mail from them - none hand-written."

The six-foot-five slinger previously held offers from Stanford and Memphis. Those two schools and Ole Miss have been the highest on his list, though the Rebels have yet to offer.

So did this foray from Louisville jump-start the Cardinals' position on his list?

"Well, I'm still really high on Ole Miss, but yes, Louisville does jump at me because of the quarterbacks they have had there recently," Garner admitted. "My interest in them is high."
