Martez Walker will attend new school in the fall

EXCLUSIVE - 2008 standout Martez Walker, who will attend the University of Louisville basketball camp again this summer, will attend a new high school with U of L ties in the fall.

6'7 Martez Walker of LaPlace, Louisiana will head to Birmingham, Alabama in the fall for high school.

"Martez is going to go to Central Park Christian in Birmingham, Alabama next year," Larry Walker told Inside The Ville Tuesday afternoon.

Considered one of the top prospects nationally in the class of 2008, Walker played last season as an eighth grader for Tim Byrd and nationally respected Reserve Christian Academy (LA).

However, a difference in philosophy between the Reserve Christian coach and the Walker's was the primary reason for the move.

"There was just some differences between them and us," Walker explained. "We prefer a little more focus on the fundamental side of things than do."

The Walker's, who recently toured the facilities at Central Park, came away impressed with both the academic and athletic aspects of Coach Levan Parker's program. Of note, Central Park Christian is also the school that former U of L commit James Lang attended.

"The educational part at Central Park Christian is phenomenal," Walker said. "They have sixteen kids in each class and they place a lot of importance on the SAT preparation."

According to the players' father, Martez will live with a host family next year until the rest of his family moves to Birmingham next June. Walker is an officer in United States Navy and is seeking a transfer from Baton Rouge to Birmingham.

The 6'7 forward will also attend Coach Pitino's basketball camp June 11-13 along with future Central Park teammate Jonathan Huffman. Walker will also play at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions this weekend.
