Padgett, who averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last season as a freshman for Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks, was granted a release from his scholarship earlier this spring after announcing his intentions to transfer from the Big XII program.
While in Lawrence, Padgett started 19 games and helped the Jayhawks advance to the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight, where they lost to national runner-up Georgia Tech in overtime. Padgett scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the four tournament games.
Padgett, who was granted a release to North Carolina earlier this week and also made an official visit to UCLA, led the Jayhawks in blocked shots with 43, the second most rejections in school history by a freshman. The Nevada native posted season highs of 19 points (Fort Hayes State), 10 rebounds (UT-Chattanooga), 5 assists (Villanova), and 5 blocks on two occassions.
The 6-foot-11 forward will have to sit out the 2004-05 season and will have three seasons of eligbility remaining.
