The height of a receiver is a popular trend lately and Louisville is doing a superb job following the trend. Among the tall receivers that the Cardinal coaching staff are targeting are Fern Creek's Maurice Urrutia, Rocky Ross of Jacksonville, Fla., Greg Orton of Huber Heights, Ohio and Steven Black of Vestavia High School in Birmingham, Alabama.
Black, who measures in at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, also has impressive speed, recently clocked with a 4.45 40.
"People keep telling me that I've grown a little bit lately as well," Black told ITV on Monday.
Unable to attend summer camps because of a commitment to basketball, Black hasn't grabbed the attention that many expected him to by this time of year.
"I'm playing basketball for my school in summer leagues," Black explained. "In fact we have a tournament this weekend starting on Thursday."
While many schools were unable to see him during the camp period, one school saw enough from highlight tape to extend a scholarship offer.
"Louisville is my favorite right now," continued Black. "I like the city and they have good graduation rates for their players, which is one of things I'm looking for. I like the offense that they have and I also like that quarterback (Brian Brohm) that they just signed."
"I'm looking at the coaches first," Black said when asked what other areas are important. "Then I want to go somewhere that passes the ball a lot."
However, while Louisville rates high with Black he is no rush to make a commitment.
"I want to take some visits first, so I'll probably decide after our season," said Black.
