Practice Begins!

The players have reported, minus a few, which means it is time for the Cardinals to begin fall camp. It all begins today at 3:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

The 2004 Cardinal football season is just about to become official. At 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, the incoming freshmen will begin their first practice in the Red and Black, with the veterans reporting to practice at 4:30.

Practice is open to the public and will remain open throughout the first week. Following the first week, practice will be completely closed as Bobby Petrino and staff begin preparation for the Cardinals home opener against Kentucky.

Following the Kentucky game, practice will be open to the public for the first 30 minutes and then will be closed for the remainder of the session.

When the players reported yesterday afternoon, three freshmen, Josh Waller, Bobby Buchanan, Mozell Axsom and Anthony Douglas failed to report. Buchanan will arrive on campus next week, while Axsom will arrive in January, along with quarterback Davis Manning. The status of Waller and Douglas remain up in the air, but it is possible that both could enroll in January as well.

The tight end position will definately be a position of interest as U of L has lost both returning tight ends from a year ago in Thomas Boyce and Wayne Riles. Freshman Scott Kuhn has very good size, speed and hands that may elevate him to the top spot on the depth chart quickly.

In case you missed addition to Boyce and Riles, DE/TE Chad Jorgensen has also left program.

Also, since many have you have asked...Shane Bailey has reported and on the team.
