Blake Boyd commits to Louisville prior to game

Madisonville's Blake Boyd made the decision to commit to Louisville an hour prior to kickoff.

Among the dozens of prospects attending Louisville's 28-0 win over Kentucky on Sunday was Blake Boyd of Madisonville. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end joins previous commitments Darius Mann and Maurice Grinter in the list of verbals for the 2005 class.

"About an hour before the game Coach Petrino was coming around and so I told him that I wanted to commit," Boyd told on Sunday. "He seemed really excited about it."

In addition to Louisville, Boyd had scholarship offers from South Carolina and Marshall.

"I didn't make the decision just to rush things," explained Boyd. "That's where my heart was and I felt that it is where I wanted to be."

While it wasn't a rush decision, it will allow things to calm down a little bit.

"Everyone's excited, plus it takes away some of the stress," continued Boyd.

Also the starting quarterback, Boyd says that he may get an opportunity to try a few spots during fall camp next year before finding his true position.

"Coach said that they were recruiting me as a defensive end, but he said that he knows that I could play a lot of positions, so I'm not sure where I'll end up," Boyd said.
