Cards enter Top 25 Polls

The University of Louisville football program enters both the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' and Associated Press Top 25 Poll's released on Sunday. The Cardinals also rank high in many NCAA statistical categories.

On the strength on two dominating victories over Kentucky and Army to open the season, the University of Louisville football program has entered the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' and Associated Press Top 25 Poll's.

"We're honored to be included in the top 25," said head coach Bobby Petrino. "It's one of our goals that we've set for the season, but we want to be there in the final poll. We know we have to get better and take one game at a time. But this is great for our program and we just need to go out and take care of business."

After outscoring it's first two opponents 80-21, U of L enters both polls at #24. It marks the first time the Cardinals have been ranked since they were 25th midway through the 2003 season.

In the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll, Southern Cal continues to hold down the top ranking, while Oklahoma, Georgia, LSU and future U of L opponent, Miami round out the top 5. Future Big East Conference mate West Virginia climbed two spots to #8 after pounding Central Florida on Saturday. In addition to Louisville, Utah, Fresno State and Boise State are the other non-BCS programs to make the list.

In the AP Top 25, the top 5 are Southern Cal, Oklahoma, Georgia, Miami and LSU. West Virginia is a spot higher at 7th, while C-USA rival Memphis enters the rankings at 25th. The ranked non-BCS programs are Utah, Fresno State, Boise State, Louisville and Memphis.
