Cards climb in Coaches Poll

The University of Louisville football program had the weekend off due to Hurricane Ivan, but the time off didn't hurt the Cardinals in the polls.

Too often is the case that a team that spending the weekend off of the football field finds that it loses votes in boths major polls. As the saying goes, 'out of sight, out of mind.'

Thankfully, that wasn't the case for Louisville this past weekend following the time off due to the postponed contest between the Cardinals and the Tulane Green Wave.

In the lastest USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, Louisville climbs three spots from it's previous ranking of 25th to 22nd.

Southern Cal remained at the top of the poll, with Oklahoma, Georgia, Miami and Texas rounding out the top five positions. Clemson was the only team to fall from the rankings, opening a spot for Oklahoma State to enter at the 25th spot. Utah (14), Fresno State (17), Boise State (21), as well as Louisville, are the non-BCS programs to find a spot in the top 25.

In the latest Associated Press Top 25 Louisville remained 24th. C-USA rival Memphis, 25th last week, fell from the rankings, as did Iowa. Click here for complete Coaches Top 25 poll
